I'm going to start with the only criticism I have. There are times when the author falls back on two phrases repeatedly. First are the words "the man". It well and truly irritated my soul. I was beginning to think the writer was suffering some sort of multiple personality disorder. In a single paragraph the author would refer to Davey and then to "the man", which in most cases were the same person. Occasionally there would be more than one player and the switch to "the man" was confusing and I had to backtrack to identify "the man". The second phrase wasn't confusing just completely overused. There are hundreds of other lovingly insulting ways to refer to someone. S*** head need not carry the entire burden. To the one-star reviewer who was unable to find the story. It's quite sad that you missed it. Given the lack of other book reviews from your profile, I wonder if you have a personal issue with the author. The writing wasn't perfect and certainly could have benefited from a professional editor (as most of us can) but the story was in plain sight and quite well laid out. I can only guess that perhaps your reading comprehension level isn't on par with the writers ability. Too bad, you really missed out.
On to the good stuff. This was a very good story. When the twist came it was completely unexpected but made perfect sense. I loved the characters. They were fully fleshed out and completely human. They were people you "know", people you could understand and identify with. We didn't get to spend a lot of time together, but I LOVE Isaac's mom and uncle. These are the people every family should have at least one of. Overall a great story in the midst of a gritty and, unfortunately, real environment.

The Year the Lake Went Low Bradon Nave 9781364971656 Books Reviews
Fantastic read. Couldn't put it down.
The story catches you right from the start. Have not enjoyed a story this much in a long time. Must read!
Some very interesting twists and turns, Very difficult to put down once I started to read. Well written.
This was a good book. It kept me interested page by page and I liked the way a new character was brought into the story in every chapter. It is a very hard book to put down, it just kept a hold of me and I had to keep turning the pages. Good job Bradon.
This is one of the best books that I have read in a long time. It made you feel as if you knew the people and the town. It will give you chills and make you sad and happy at the same time.
The love of a brother for his sister drives this hard, gritty mystery/suspense. With a twisting plot and characters that come to life before your eyes, this one will keep you guessing until the very end. If you like writing that doesn't pull any punches and deals with hard subjects, this is the read for you. Set in Oklahoma, we are given a glimpse into a community and a world in which most of us have never experienced. Mr. Nave does a fine job with pacing, plot, and character development. Great read.
Wow! What a book! I don't know why, but this book gave me the creeps from the very first paragraph. Nave does a superb job of setting the scene and mood of the book, which is dark, gritty, and tragic. The town itself is terrifying, filled with meth addicts and people with HIV. The main character is on a mission -- to find out the truth about what really happened to his half-sister. Although, like he says -- she isn't HALF of anything. The main character's love for his long lost sister and raw pain from her loss are so perfectly portrayed, and I felt like I was feeling what he was feeling, and experiencing the macabre atmosphere for myself. There are some bizarre twists and turns, and the author took me along for the ride. I loved trying to unravel this mystery! The ending is perfect, and was emotional for me. I loved every minute of this story and I'm a big fan of Mr. Nave's. I can not wait to check out some of his other works!
