Long Stories Short is a collection of short stories, which includes several previously published readers' favorites. Written in a variety of genres, many with a touch of paranormal, there is something for almost everyone who enjoys taking time out from life's demands to escape into the realm of literature. Expect the unexpected.
A house fire causes tragedy in "Aftermath." "Magic or Miracles" takes the reader on a journey to decide if there's a difference. How long is "Forever?" Mark and Erin discover the power of the Ouija Board, in "You Summoned Me." Does Bigfoot exist? Eli believes so and "One Step at a Time" tells his story. Is there life after death? "A Candle in the Darkness" looks at both sides of the question. "Mountain Justice," a story of domestic violence, friendship and a horse's devotion might make you wonder how far you would go to save a friend's life. A hasty decision has devastating results in "Unintended Consequences." Dreams and reality collide in "The Hunted." Man's best friend proves that he truly is, in "Indisputable Evidence."
Long Stories Short A collection of short stories by eBook Karen Black
“Long Stories Short” is an incredibly well-written (seriously, didn’t spot a single error) collection of tales that are each incredibly entertaining. I loved the paranormal aspect and many of the stories touched on real life situations pertaining to love and loss. “You Summoned Me” is definitely my number one pick because it involves the Ouija board, an item that many in my household are currently fascinated with. This book can easily be shared or gifted because it is good, clean, supernatural fun and easy reading. Quite appropriate for readers of any age as long as they can handle the spooky/paranormal elements. I didn’t read the stories in order. Instead, I read the ones I thought I would find the most interesting first, but ended up being overwhelmingly entertained by the entire collection. Karen Black did a fabulous job of incorporating twists and turns into every story making each one unpredictable. I do hope the author considers creating an audiobook from her writing because the entire collection makes for great storytelling.Product details

Long Stories Short A collection of short stories by eBook Karen Black Reviews
This was the first book by Karen Black I have read and I must day I did enjoy each of the stories. My favorites were A Candle in the Darkness, Forever, and Mountain Justice. Each of these had a powerful message about death, relationships, and abuse. Well-written.
Review by Nic's wife.
Note- if you've read other works by this author, be aware that some of these stories are in other collections. I realized a few paragraphs in to the first story that it was really familiar. Turns out my husband bought another collection a bit back, and I'd already skimmed through some of them.
I'm not sure I like the author's plotting style; some of the stories felt like they'd have held together better without the twists. The stories felt cohesive together, though, as they had similar themes, generally paranormal, home invasion or domestic abuse, with similar feeling characters. I'd like to see the author push herself a bit further into other kinds of characters or stories, but that's just my own preference. I like seeing short story collections that truly show the breadth of an author's focus, rather than just variations on a theme.
I'm a huge horror buff, the grosser and more psychological the better, so these stories weren't quite uncomfortable enough for me. They're a pretty straightforward, clean read, though.
This is the second time I read anything written by Ms. Black. The first had been “The Hunted.” As I said in my review back then that I’ll be adding this book to my TBR; my only regret is I didn’t decide to read it sooner.
“Long Stories Short” is a collection of ten short stories written by this author, of which, “The Hunted” is one of them, none of the other stories disappointed me.
To paraphrase what I said in my review for “The Hunted”
As you read her stories you’re immediately sucked into each one. Ms. Black through her writing skills is able in each to create a mental picture of what’s happening; all the sights, smells, and dialogue. All of the stories have the ability, if it’s done right, to be expanded into a novella. In all of the short stories in the book Ms. Black succeeds in giving her readers an unexpected surprise twist at the end of each one, which definitely adds to the enjoyment of reading each one.
I’m therefore not hesitating in giving this book 5 STARS.
The book of short stories is filled with well-written short stories.
My favorite is Unintended Consequences. Melanie loves her daughter with all of her heart. Her actions to protect her child lead to unintended consequences.
"The solid slam of the steel door convinced me that, until that moment, I had under-appreciated the concept of liberty. My expectation of an abysmal future was reinforced by the clunk of locks engaged behind me. Even if I could flee captors who flanked me on the walk to my cell, there was no exit from this hell hole. I had arrived at my new home as a consequence for my actions, yet wondered if my fate was truly justice."
The stories offer different perspectives on life and death, awake and dreaming, and right and wrong. The collection reflects the best work of well-known author Karen Black. Long Stories Short A collection of short stories will warm your heart, stir your emotions, and entertain you.
Long Stories Short By Karen Black is great. I enjoyed the twists that her stories have at the end, the imagination that she brings to the stories and the fun of the mysteries it holds. I love to read and really enjoyed her stories. My 12 year old daughter who is addicted to reading books like goosebumps started reading the first story The Hunted and couldn't put it down she LOVES IT so this book not only was found fun reading by an adult but also by a teen and that makes it double great..... So thank you for these wonderful stories and I really hope there is more stories I will be looking for them. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Talented Author
Surprising twists and unexpected endings are a staple of good short stories and this collection abounds with them. I love the touches of the supernatural and paranormal. Ouija boards, Bigfoot, horses and dogs. Could we ask for anything more?
A well-crafted, entertaining collection - highly recommended.
This collection of short stories is well worth the read. The tales are quite entertaining, very well written, and just the right length for a reader who wants quality, quick gratification. The stories involve the paranormal, dream worlds, and even Sasquatch. Each flows easily from page to page with barely a flaw. I found myself reading the entire selection in one creepy, mind-bending sitting, often holding my breath. A truly entertaining collection of stories. There is some fairly graphic violence, so gentle readers beware.
